About the Shullsburg Bicentennial Celebration committee

our purpose

The purpose of the Shullsburg Bicentennial Committee is to raise funds for the celebration of the 200th anniversary of Shullsburg, WI in the year 2027.  The hope for this celebration is that it will be a worthy tribute to those who came before us and a memorable, fun-filled event for the locals of all ages and an inspiration for future generations.

Our Journey

Five members of the community gathered for the first time on December 4, 2016 to discuss the possibility of a Bicentennial celebration.  The idea was to start early, build a fund and seek input from anyone and everyone willing to share a vision of what such a celebration should entail.  Fundraising began with garage sales, soup suppers, mass mailings, and open donations.

Our Goals…

The committee is now well on its way to having met the goal, set so many years ago, in hopes of a wonderful celebration. Starting the year with a firework filled event on January 1, the committee’s plan is to intersperse the year 2027 with a wide variety of activities that appeal to a broad range of attendees. These activities will include a “Bicentennial Boost” to Shullsburg’s current slate of events. Events such as, the car show in June, the Traditional 4th of July celebration in July, Cheesefest in October, and an all-school Alumni Reunion. Then closing a fantastic year-long celebration with another firework filled event on December 31. Additional activities, hosted by the Bicentennial Committee, such as a quilt show with a pasty luncheon, a family friendly Street Dance, as well as exposing the time capsule from 1977 along with burying a new 2027 time capsule.

Our Start…

In honor of the city’s 200th anniversary, plans are already underway to plant 200 trees around the community, print a special postal cancellation, and mint a “200-Year” memorial coin. Additional commemorative merchandise and treasured keepsakes will all be available for purchase.
